Crusaders face Comets in Season Opener on Thursday
Meeting of #1 versus #3 in the city
The Archbishop Moeller Crusaders varsity soccer team opens up the 2018 season by hosting the Mason Comets at the University of Cincinnati's Gettler Stadium for a 7 p.m. match on Thursday night. The match will pit the number one and number three ranked teams in the Cincinnati.com coaches poll.
The Crusaders are coming off a 2017 campaign in which they posted the second best record in program history at 14-2-3. Last years team won the city championship, the GCL South championship, the programs first since 2010 and advanced to the district final for the first time since 2015.
The Crusaders enter the match ranked second in the Cincinnati.com coaches poll garnering 87 points and three first place votes. Archbishop Moeller returns their top scorer from a year ago, senior,
Jordan Walter who netted eleven goals and their top assist man,
Parker Grinstead who dished out eleven assists.
The Comets enter the match occupying the top spot in the Cincinnati.com coaches poll after receiving 116 points and eight first place votes. Mason is 1-0 on the year after defeating Springboro, 2-0 at home on Saturday.
Mason returns their top scorer, senior, Josh Iroh who was fifth in the GMC a year ago with ten goals and their team leader in assists, senior, Nick Krueger who was first in the GMC with eleven assists.
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the fourth meeting all-time between the Crusaders and the Comets. The Crusaders lead the all-time series two games to one and defeated the Comets to open last season, 2-1 at Mason.
